Joint Strategic Needs Assessment
Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust and Buckinghamshire County Council have researched the current and future health, care and well-being needs of the people of Buckinghamshire.
The findings are described in the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). It will be used to inform the way services are organised and delivered in Buckinghamshire to meet the needs of the people
How the assessment is different
It is the most comprehensive assessment of the needs of the people of Buckinghamshire that has ever been carried out, pulling together and analysing a wide range of information. It gives us the opportunity to review and build on all the needs assessment work that has already been done and will help to develop and join up health and social care services.
Responsibility
- There is a legal requirement for the Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the County Council to produce a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment of the local population.
- The assessment is carried out jointly by Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust and Buckinghamshire County Council.
- It is the joint responsibility of the Director of Public Health, Director of Children’s Services and the Director of Adult Social Care.
Key Priorities
The JSNA has identified the following commissioning priorities for partners in Buckinghamshire:
- Narrow the gap in the broader determinants of health and improve the opportunities for those experiencing the most difficult circumstances
- A strong, strategic focus on prevention and early intervention, particularly for long term conditions and the lifestyle factors that influence them
- Development of Self Directed Care and increased choice and control over the services that people receive
- Focus on transitions – supporting children and young people and adults when they need help at key stages in their lives
- Family Focus – ensure that services are working together to support the whole family to achieve outcomes
- Maintain robust systems for surveillance and control of infectious diseases
- Improving efficiency and effectiveness to ensure the most effective use of available resources
The JSNA was produced before the economic downturn and does not reflect how this may impact on local populations and services. Please find below a link to the JSNA
Your views
Your thoughts and comments on the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment were fed into the final version and will help to inform the refresh process.
Review
The JSNA will be reviewed on an annual basis in the light of new datasets to ensure that it still provides an accurate understanding of health and wellbeing in the county.
